NSPS Seeks Support for its Davis-Bacon Stance

On Thursday September 19 NSPS Executive Director Curt Sumner and NSPS Lobbyist John Byrd attended a meeting of the American Action Forum/Network to discuss the recent ruling by the Department of Labor related to the application of the Davis-Bacon Act to survey crews.


Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) attended the meeting and also spoke on other issues, including EPA regulations, the Affordable Care Act, and regulatory reform.


The representatives in attendance from approximately another half-dozen organizations also made presentations on a variety of topics, and were supportive of the NSPS opposition to the process utilized by the DoL in issuing its recent ruling on Davis-Bacon.

NSPS Offers Nomination for Technical Mapping Advisory Council (TMAC)

A stipulation of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (BW-12) is the establishment of a Technical Mapping Advisory Council (TMAC). The TMAC is to include members of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of the Interior, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, other federal agencies, state and local governments, and experts from private stakeholder groups.

NSPS is among the associations/organizations that have been invited to submit nominees to be considered for 2-year appointments to the TMAC.

NSPS Executive Director (on behalf of NSPS) has submitted the nomination of Wendy Lathrop, Past President of NSPS, and the representative for NSPS (and then ACSM) on the TMAC which was in place from 1996 to 2000.


Wendy’s expertise in the issues to be considered by the TMAC, along with her prior similar service, make her extraordinarily qualified for this appointment.
