NSPS Assistance Requested to Define “Geodetic Surveyors”

Over time, NSPS has been asked by the Department of Labor to solicit “occupation experts” who can help to insure that DoL’s O*NET program correctly defines occupations within the overall category of surveying and mapping.

Currently, O*NET is in the process of defining the occupation of Geodetic Surveyor.

The U.S. Department of Labor requests your assistance with a program that is important to the nation - the Occupational Information Network (O*NET®). The O*NET Program serves employers, human resource professionals, job counselors, and labor market analysts across the country who depend on occupational information to perform their daily work. Individuals who are exploring and planning careers also use O*NET information. We would like your help to keep this information current.  Your assistance will help describe the complexities of your work to the American public

 

NSPS seeks your assistance as an occupation expert (OE) for the occupation of Geodetic Surveyors. Occupation experts will be called and asked to complete O*NET questionnaires to provide information on their field of expertise. Their contribution to this program will ensure that the occupational information provided in the O*NET database is current and accurate.

"Are you an Occupational Expert?"---the criteria:

1. Do you currently work in the U.S.?
2. The description of this occupational classification is below.  Does the work described fit either the work you're doing now or have done in the past? (Your job title doesn't need to match, just the work described.)
3. Geodetic Surveyors:  Description:
   Measure large areas of the Earth's surface using satellite observations, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), light detection and ranging (LIDAR), or related sources. Some of the alternate titles for this occupation:   Geodesist , Geodetic Surveyor Technologist, Geographic Information System Surveyor, and Remote Sensing Surveyor. 
4. Do you have at least 5 years experience with this occupation? Experience = practicing the occupation but also includes those who have at least 1 year of practice who are now training, instructing or supervising those in the occupation .
